Abstract

This research addresses an important issue in usul al-fiqh: the narrator's contradiction of his or her own narration. It explains differences in juristic approaches to religious texts and discusses the concepts of narrator, narrated text, and contradiction, as well as the effect of contradiction on accepting reports. It examines the foundations of the rule in Hanafi legal thought, its supporting evidence and criteria, and practical cases in which disagreement affected legal rulings. The study concludes that the rule is not an independent Hanafi basis for rejecting reports.
